@tj_ohanlon As for the economy - it’s now facing very bleak conditions either way. Either lockdowns choke the economy intermittently or no lockdowns and high running levels of infection leave a significant percentage too fearful to leave the house. Older people hold the spending power.

@tj_ohanlon Well, everyone was guessing at that stage - given Italy and NY were their reference, I don’t blame them for being overly cautious back then. The real failure was not using those early days of total lockdown to sync island wide and pursue an eradication goal like NZ, now on L1.

@tj_ohanlon What that means is practice is a choice between two things - widespread acceptance and compliance of basic restrictions on liberties or intermittent lockdowns. The first one is the easiest and most logical and least damaging, the second one is the most likely because.. numpties.

@tj_ohanlon Indeed, waiting lists here were an absolute disgrace before Covid was thought of, there's no words to describe them now. Yep, we're living with it for anything between 1-3 years before risks are acceptably negligible for the majority.

@tj_ohanlon I’d actually argue the problem with the first lockdown was that it worked too well. Dire predictions never materialised which has led to widespread apathy and people questioning even the most basic advice while now in the jaws of economic catastrophe.

@tj_ohanlon Don’t forget the stated aim of the first lockdown, and these proposed circuit-breakers, is not to eradicate the virus but to ensure the health service is not overwhelmed. On that metric, the first lockdown absolutely worked. UK & Irish govs abandoned eradication effort in March.

@wesbos @syntaxfm Working on BBC iPlayer, while rubber-ducking a bug to colleague, I stuck a log message into a site-wide alt text helper - “Hello Rob!” - forgot to take it out.. made it to production. Every single image alt on entire site 🤦🏻‍♂️

@irish_news Your site has issues... again. I don't like to criticise but I have to say (as a monthly subscriber) it's a rare day that I visit your site and don't hit some sort of glitch. 🤨 https://t.co/YL6mV6dfpM

@DecLawn Seen this last night - why isn't it leading every news bulletin? I don't get it.

RT @bopinion: The shift of London's investment banking resources to the EU is already posing serious questions about the City's future role…

@thejtlewis But if it's no worse than a cold, why wouldn't he beat it easily? Or are you now saying it *is* a killer virus and Donny is hero for shrugging it off? Both can't be true champ.

RT @WebDevLaw: It would be amazing if there was a political party which actually understood tech - as neither a magic solution nor the root…

@DecLawn Worse still, their reported fix is to now split the spreadsheet into two separate files...not increase the file size limit 🤦🏻‍♂️
