@SaraONeillArt @Thelytokous I think that just illustrates that even all her staff knew it was well out of bounds so they all make sure their asses are covered. The poorer reflection on Truss is that no-one on her staff felt comfortable telling her as it is.

@brendanjharkin Iām really not, the question was rhetorical. I agree the bar is on the floor, but I also think itās impossible for them to lift it to an acceptable level and remain viable so thatās where it will stay.
@brendanjharkin The core problem is that we donāt pay for Twitter so protecting users will never be the priority. Their North Star is user engagement so using Twitter to call on Twitter to take action on a message published on Twitter ad infinitum isnāt it.
@brendanjharkin 4Chan is incomparable scale wise. Basic systems sounds easy until you scale them - automatically red flagging the N word would flag millions of tweets that are not racial slurs. Many other slurs are not slurs in different contexts or cultures. Who reviews them all?
@brendanjharkin They donāt have the money, Twitter is barely profitable. And aside from that, scale and community moderation are mutually exclusive. Realistically, you need a moderator for every 75-100 daily users. Twitter has about 300 million users, itās impossible.
@brendanjharkin The local (well-meaning) politicos who roll out calling for āsocial media companies to do moreā need to send some time to understand the scale these companies operate at. ~10,000 tweets are posted *every second* of *every day*
@brendanjharkin Why hasnāt this been addressed? Some over-worked student in the Philippines picked it off backlog, assigned themselves marking it āIn progressā and then realised he had enough of adjudicating on the entrails of humanity and logged off 5 minutes early. Heās back on Tuesday, maybe.
@brendanjharkin Reality is that big tech outsources responsibility for this stuff to moderation farms in developing countries - calls centres but with PTSD counselling as standard. Trolls like above provoke widespread disgust locally but to Twitter as a platform, itās one ticket in a million.
